Summary

Investigators from the 20th Ward launch an initiative to take out the Ghoul known as the One-Eyed Owl， who has possible ties to both Akira and Yoshimura。 An all-out assault on the Anteiku café， where the Owl is supposedly hiding， results in full-fledged battle。

Good BookThis is one of my daughter’s favorite manga series。 It talks about this boy named Kaneki who got turned into a one eyed ghoul。

CW: child abuse， child sexual abuse， graphic depictions of harm to a child， gore。。。 Y'all， I'm sure there's more。I gave this four stars， but like a weak 4 stars。 I could easily be swayed to give this 3。5 or even 3 if someone can articulate my argument better lol。 It has nothing to do with the art， which is stunning as always， nor with the actual writing - Ishida does an excellent job of creating dialogue and there are some really heartrending/touching scenes here。But it's really difficult to tal CW: child abuse， child sexual abuse， graphic depictions of harm to a child， gore。。。 Y'all， I'm sure there's more。I gave this four stars， but like a weak 4 stars。 I could easily be swayed to give this 3。5 or even 3 if someone can articulate my argument better lol。 It has nothing to do with the art， which is stunning as always， nor with the actual writing - Ishida does an excellent job of creating dialogue and there are some really heartrending/touching scenes here。But it's really difficult to talk about the specifics this far into a series， so I'll put the rest o f my thoughts in a tag！（view spoiler）[So， we get some of Juzo's background here and we learn they were traumatically castrated by a ghoul who was holding them hostage。 Lack of testosterone = looking more feminine = the Juzo we know today。 Although everyone else continues to refer to them with he/him pronouns， I've decided I'll be using they/them from here on out simply because we catch a glimpse of their CCG personnel file and it lists gender as "none。" I feel kind of gross about this plot line。 Outside parts and inside parts don't have to equal each other to create a gender， and while I would be interested in reading about traumatic responses that lead to nongendered presentation （I actually have a friend whose gender story is along that route but that's their story to tell。） I don't want a cis man to tell it to me。 I don't want any cis person to tell it to me。 As a cis person， I don't even want to touch the concept of writing it with a 20-foot pole！！ lol。So yeah， parts =/= gender and the issue is kind of forced here in a non sequitur form。 My other issue - we know I hate Shuu。 I have not made a mystery of my feelings about this man。He's always been queercoded throughout the story， but in this chapter he definitely goes beyond coded when he was a talk with Kaneki。 I don't really love queercoded villains and I'm also not huge on the "cannibalism hiding queer desire" literary convention， BUT at least for that one I do understand the historical context。 （hide spoiler）]In conclusion， I'm not emotionally prepared to read the final volume。 。。。more

Despite some details， this is now identical to the show。 I am so happy they chose to animate it because it was beautifully made。 The show will be fun to rewatch with the real story in mind。 I kind of miss Banjou and the others but I respect that Kaneki went alone。 Also this is literally his BEST look I adore it。 And Suzuya has my pity， if not for the animal killing， I would adore him。
